About Me : )
Welcome to my Substack!
My name is Kaishelle, but everyone calls me Shelley – which might seem random, but it makes sense: Kaishelle ➞ Shelle + Y = Shelley. Feel free to call me either!
I am a soon-to-be graduate from Kings College London, where I studied Social Sciences. From a young age, my family told me that I spoke too much, and at 21, I still have plenty to say. To channel my thoughts, I often wrote them down, capturing the discussions I would have with myself. This page offers a little insight into those thoughts which will most likely be me just complaining about a lot ! But its worth it I promise!
Here I will be writing about everything and anything Black because as it says on my profile that is my entire personality.
I am launching this Substack to create a space where I can share my thoughts and experiences, particularly focusing on the Black experience. This is a deeply personal project inspired by my own life and the stories of those around me. With my academic background in social justice and activism, I have always been passionate about learning about society and telling parts of the Black story through my lens.
I will also be incorporating sociological analysis to help you understand the things you are probably already aware of just a little bit more deeply.
I am inviting you to subscribe to my thoughts and join me in creating a space for open discussion and shared experiences. This will be a place for everyone interested in understanding and celebrating the multifaceted Black experience.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
Posting Schedule: I will be posting new articles every week.
Content: Expect a mix of thoughtful essays on social justice, activism, and the Black experience, along with lighter pieces. There will be a variety of content discussing all aspects of life - love, culture, friendship, society, Blackness and more!
While I plan to discuss real and pressing issues, there will also be light and fun pieces. Amidst the struggles and challenges, it’s important to highlight the Black joy that defines our lives just as much.
I will be experimenting with content and format, and I encourage you to join me on this journey.
With this page I aim to write articles that resonate with others, hoping that my words can connect with people and help them make sense of their own experiences. Writing is my way of expressing my own thoughts and I believe many others find solace in this same process. For those who may not resonate directly, I hope to educate and share new information that you can take with you and pass on to share with others.
Thanks for reading! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
